Wallace Eckert (IBM) and his team finish the SSEC (Selective Sequence Electronic Calculator)

 

Description

This machine is a hybride and contains several memory systems: 8 vacuum tubes, 150 words relais memory and 66 papertapes that can store 20,000 words of 20 digits in DCB format.
This machine cand read instructions form one of the paper tapes, read internal memory and the running programme. Even when the memory capacity is minimal. From IBM's point of view the is the first true computer.(1)
