The first fractal is published by professor Mandelbrot in 1975.
Typically is that a fractal is only a mathematical formulae that can be used in a programme to generate a picture. Programming a fractal boils down to the following:
Draw a line in color A
Draw another line that is half the size of the previous but in a slightly different angle and give is a different color
Repeat the last instruction a million times

When you enlarge a fractal the pattern will allways be the same. At least with the first types of fractals as you see below.
Fractals do not only mean science but also art, as you can see below.
